Attayam Chira

Attayam Chira is a small reservoir built for irrigation, tucked along the Attayam–Kizhakkel kadav road in Velloorkunnam, just outside Muvattupuzha. It's not built up for tourism — no ticket counter, no crowds, just a stretch of water held back by a wall you can walk across. The main draw here is the water itself. Locals come to swim, bathe, and jump in from the wall, and the reservoir stays calm enough for that most of the year outside peak monsoon. Walking along the top of the check-dam gives a clear view over the water on one side and the irrigation channel on the other, with a steady breeze that makes it a pleasant spot to just sit for a while. What stands out is how lonely the place is — in a good way if you want quiet, less so if you're looking for company or facilities. There's a gentle, unhurried feel to it, more like a village swimming spot than a tourist stop. Go expecting nothing more than water, a wall, and some open sky, and it delivers exactly that.
